World War III - Soviet Starter Force: T-80 Shock Tank Company

Aleksandr rapped his hands across the surfaces inside the turret of his T-80 main battle tank to the hum of the autoloader spinning. He loved two things in life, music and his tank. The T-80 was the newest tank in service, and Aleksandr had been lucky enough to have been assigned to one.

"Quit that and do your job!" Victor barked at him from above the turret as he handed a shell down. Dropping it into the autoloader's arm Aleksandr reached up for the 'shot’' a charge bag for the penetrator he had just loaded. He quickly racked it in place and pulled back the shell, strapping them in, the mechanical arm pulled back with them and folded the two parts as it sank below into the belly of the tank. The familiar hum returning as it spun to load another round.

"Something's up" he heard Victor say quietly. Popping his head up out of the turret, he saw a flight of Mi-8s scream by with their Mi-24 escorts. Victor's face had softened from its normally sour demeanor.

"I hope you play the T-80 as well as you do that little drum," Victor said still staring in the direction the helicopters had flown.

He could hear the distant sound of explosions. At this range they were almost comforting with their near musical rhythm. The Soviet war machine beats to the sound of the artillery, the god of war, and he could hear the crescendo building as some general was conducting the next violent symphony.

The front was calling. Aleksandr knew he and his T-80 would soon answer that call.

"I’m better with this tank than any drum comrade".
